The Most Famous of the Famous – The Colt® Single Action Army “Peacemaker”
One of the many Colt® models that have been made throughout the company’s extensive legacy, which one would win the heavy-weight title of the most famous Colt firearms? For many the choice would clearly be the Model 1873 Single Action Army. The Single Action Army Revolver was the firearm of choice throughout America’s legendary Wild West era. And the SAA Revolver was also the official revolver of the military for many years. The Colt Model 1873 is also the only revolver from that era still in production by its original maker. And the model’s other name – the “Peacemaker” – came from a nickname given to Colonel Colt (in 1847). The Single Action Army model was also famously known as “the gun that won the West.” And what better firearm could be selected to honor those brave men of the Western frontier, who fought on the side of law and order at a time when there were many who disturbed the peace? It is awesome to consider how most of those lawmen, who were some of the most-influential and often, the most-colorful of their age, were also U.S. Marshals of the frontier – the oldest Federal law enforcement agency, established in 1789, by President George Washington, himself! The Marshal Service included men like “Wild Bill” Hickok, Bat Masterson and Wyatt Earp, all known to have carried Colt Revolvers.
“One of 125” Collector Edition
Each revolver…
…is mirror polished by our experienced firearms polishers.
…is hand-engraved using the traditional, time-honored hammer-and-chisel method. The classic American scrolls, with punch-dot backgrounds, are what would have been engraved on the finest presentation SAA’s of the Western era, and you’ll find them here in abundance.
…features engraved spurs and a Marshal’s badge on the frame.
…features the year, 1789, hand-engraved in a banner on the right side, marking the beginning of what is today the U.S. Marshals Service.
…features “IN HONOR OF THE FRONTIER MARSHALS” engraved on the barrel, and “THE LONG ARM OF THE LAW” engraved along the ejector rod housing.
…features the crowning element of a U.S. Marshal badge – hand-carved sculpture in a piece of hand-cut genuine solid 24-Karat Gold, hand inlaid into the recoil shield.
All of the hand-engraved components are carefully, lightly polished to remove any engraving burrs, and each revolver is beautifully plated in a two-tone scheme authentic to the era. The frame, barrel and ejector rod are Show-Quality Nickel-plated and the cylinder, hammer, trigger, ejector rod housing and cylinder pivot pin are plated with genuine 24-Karat Gold.
For a final touch of extravagance, all the screws are mirror polished and Nitre Blued, which is a bright ‘peacock’ blue. This is a highly-controlled, high-temperature process, and, like hand-engraving, this is a traditional technique that goes back for centuries.
